Short CV

Since 1992, I have been involved in multiple research projects mostly funded by the E.U. (under IST, COST, Telematics, Environment, TMR, ESPRIT, etc.), Canadian Agencies (under NSERC, NRCan, UNB, etc.), and the Greek Government. I have worked as an advisor or researcher in the Hellenic Cadastre S.A., Intracom S.A., Hellenic Documentation Centre, and Fraunhofer Gessellschaft - AIS Institute (Germany). Since 1999, I have been a University Professor and have taught many undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Geoinformatics at numerous Institutions and mainly at the University of New Brunswick (since 2011), Harokopio University of Athens (2000-11 as an Associate Professor), National Technical University of Athens (1999-2005 as an Instructor), Hellenic Open University (2000-11 as an Instructor; distance learning), Technical University of Crete (1999-01 as an Adjunct Professor), BW Munich (2006-11 as an Instructor; distance learning), and UN Lisbon (2006-15 as an Instructor; distance learning). I joined the Department of Geodesy and Geomatics Engineering at UNB in July 2011 (see above for the current list of courses and research projects). My research interests include the following topics: Geographic Data Handling, Spatio-temporal Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining, Spatio-temporal Indexing and Optimization, Geovisualization and Cartography, Web Mapping and Geospatial Web, Spatial Data Infrastructures, Interoperability of Geographic Data and Semantic Web, Spatial Analysis Methods and Algorithms, Education in Geomatics and Geomatics-Assisted Education. I have over 100 articles published in international journals (e.g., IJGIS, IEEE TKDE, Cartography and GIS Journal, Geomatica, etc.) and conferences (e.g., IEEE KDE, COSIT, SDH, AGILE, ISPRS, ICA, GIScience, etc.) in the above areas. I have been a reviewer of many articles for international scientific journals and conferences, while I have served as a member of the Organizing, Program and Scientific committees in international conferences related to Geoinformatics. Since January 2014 I have been a Joint Editor-in-Chief of Cartographica Journal. I am a member of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of New Brunswick (APEGNB); Canadian Institute of Geomatics (CIG); and Canadian Cartographic Association (CCA).
