PhD candidate in Clinical Psychology, UNB

Main Research Interest: Women in university residences

Secondary Interests: Motivational interviewing and clinical teaching with health psychology patients; The nature and ramifications of "e-relationships" (i.e., web-based socializing); Communication with infants; the experiences of transition house workers

I am completing my pre-doctoral internship of the PhD program in Clinical Psychology.
This internship is at the Counseling Centre at Memorial University of Newfoundland. My primary area of research focuses on the institutional impact of the university and residence system on the lives of university women living in residence. To this end, I am carrying out qualitative analyses following the methodology of the psycho-social ethnography of the commonplace, which is a methodology created by Dr. Carmen Poulin and Lynne Gouliquer for the study of the psychological impact of institutional practices.

This method also influenced the completion of an earlier project following the lives of
transition house workers, which assessed the influence of the institution on how they
conducted and made sense of their everyday lives. The research lab has been vital in
developing and supporting the related research, from its conception to its completion. My past interests have involved the ramifications of instant messaging (IM) and other

common internet practices for the healthy development of social skills and adjustment in adolescents. Additionally, I was involved with research in the University of New Brunswick Infant Research Lab under the supervision of Dr. Barb D'Entremont, focusing on the effects of maternal support on infant language development and cognitive abilities, and also assessing joint attention and more specifically, gaze-following.
