2009 World Congress on Privacy, Security, Trust and the Management of e-Business

Partnership / Sponsorship Package

World Congress 2009 Conference Overview
(Who What Where When Why)

What is the World Congress 2009?
The World Congress on Privacy Security Trust and the Management of eBusiness brings together two very successful annual events - the annual World Congress on the Management of e-Business conference organized by McMaster University’s eBusiness Research Centre (MeRC) and the annual Privacy, Security and Trust conference (PST) organized by the University of New Brunswick (UNB) in cooperation with the National Research Council of Canada Institute for Information Technology (NRC-IIT). The 2009 joint conference will be the 9th annual World Congress on the Management of e-Business and the 7th annual PST conference.

Where and When is the 2009 World Congress Being Held?
The joint conference will take place August 25-27, 2009, in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada. By combining forces we are able to offer attendees a much richer experience for a single registration fee. The 2009 World Congress on Privacy, Security, Trust and the Management of e-Business will include workshops, tutorials, panel discussions, keynote speakers, research papers, a graduate student symposium, a public safety / critical infrastructure summit and social events.

Who Will Attend?
The World Congress 2009 will be a combined business and research conference attracting a multidisciplinary audience of corporate and government executives, recognized academics and student leaders together to present, discuss and review the latest issues, trends, challenges and opportunities related to privacy, security, trust and  the electronic economy.  In recent years, the event has been covered by newspapers, TV and magazine media outlets.  Not only will the World Congress have a wide scope of delegates geographically, but it will also draw attendees from a variety of professional backgrounds. We estimate the conference will attract  in excess of 200 delegates.

What is this Year’s Theme?
This year’s theme is Privacy, Security, Trust and the Management of e-Business. New technological, demographic and economic forces are reshaping the competitive landscape for business and hence are also reshaping the factors critical for success.  Information and communications technology is spawning innovative new modes of production based on mass collaboration where thousands, and sometimes millions of people link up in loose networks to peer produce goods and services. Organizations that have traditionally relied on sophisticated risk management practices and top-down control mechanisms must prepare for a world of massive global business collaborations where successfully dealing with privacy, security and trust concerns is a critical success factor. Enterprise 2.0 leaders need to master unfamiliar skills like sharing control and responsibility, embracing transparency, and, above all, creating and managing trust among peers.

What are the Topics?
The 2009 World Congress will feature papers, presentations and discussions in seven theme areas:

  • Privacy (program chair: David Townsend, University of New Brunswick)
  • Security (program chair: Nur Zincir-Heywood, Dalhousie University)
  • Trust (program chair: Andrew Patrick, NRC Institute for Information Technology)
  • eHealth (program chair: Norm Archer, McMaster University)
  • HCI (program chair: Milena Head, McMaster University)
  • eInnovation: (program chair: Michael Bliemel, Dalhousie University)
  • eGovernment (program chair: William McIver, Jr., NRC Institute for Information Technology
