Jacquie Cohen
I completed
my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at UNB and a post-doctoral
fellowship at
St. Joseph’s Healthcare, Hamilton. I currently hold two clinical
positions. The first is staff psychologist for the East Coast
Forensic Hospital. I conduct risk assessments to inform the NS
Criminal Code Review
Board’s decisions regarding patient privilege and hospital
discharge as well as consult
on issues of fitness to stand trial and criminal responsibility. The
second postion is a co-lead of Capital Health's Borderline Personality
Disorder Treatment Program, a service tha tprovides comprehensive and
intensive treatment to individuals with treatment-resistent Borderline
Personality Disorder. I am also an Assistant Professor in the
Department of Psychiatry at Dalhousie University and a Clinical
Associate with Dalhousie's Department of Psychology.
My clinical and research interests relate
to people's experience of being marginalized and otherwise
subjected to invalidating environments. As such, my dissertation
examined the effects of minority stress and resilience processes on the
sexual functioning of sexual-minority women. My current research
focuses on the experiences with mental health services of individuals
with borderline personality disorder; they often experience
significant stigma.
What I valued most about working with
Sandi is that she provided me with strong research supervison while
giving me the latitude to choose and develop my own projects. She also
provided me with excellent clinical supervision and helped me to
develop my own supervisory skills. Since I graduated, Sandi has
continued to be a mentor as I build and learn to balance my career as a
clinical psychologist, researcher, program leader, teacher, and
supervisor.
