Dr. Jane Ursel is the Director of RESOLVE, a tri-provincial research centre on Interpersonal Violence and Violence against women and children with offices in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta. She is an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of Manitoba. Dr. Ursel is the Director of a longitudinal study of the Winnipeg Family Violence Court, the first specialized domestic violence court in Canada. She has collected data since the court was established in 1990. She is also the principal investigator of a tri provincial (prairie) longitudinal study of women who have experienced violence in their intimate partner relations. This study involves over 650 women who will be interviewed 7 times over a period of 4 or more years. They reside in 39 communities in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta. Other research areas include, Protection Order legislation and exploitation of women and children in the sex trade.
