Dr. Myrna Dawson is a Canada Research Chair in Public Policy in Criminal Justice, Director of the Centre for the Study of Social and Legal Responses to Violence, and Associate Professor, Department of Sociology & Anthropology, University of Guelph. The author of numerous publications and reports, Dr. Dawson is co-author of Violence Against Women in Canada: Research and Policy Perspectives (Oxford University Press, 2011), guest editor of the recently-released special issue ‘Fatality and Death Reviews’ in the international journal Homicide Studies and a member of the Ontario Domestic Violence Death Review Committee.

Four of her current projects examine:

(1) the geography of social and criminal justice for victims and perpetrators of violence;
(2) the growth and impact of domestic violence death review initiatives;
(3) as part of Statistics Canada’s Research Data Centre Initiative, police charging practices in cases of intimate partner violence; and
(4) the distribution of homicide by victim-offender relationship over time and geography, focusing on domestic homicide and filicide.

Dr. Dawson held an international Visiting Scholar Fellowship at the Faculty of Law, University of Melbourne in 2011 and a TC Beirne School of Law Distinguished Visiting Fellowship, University of Queensland in 2012. She has published and lectured internationally across various disciplines and sectors.
