The department said a farewell to Landon Urquhart on December 20. Landon has completed the requirements for his M.Sc.E degree under the supervision of Dr. Marcelo Santos. The Department said a farewell to Jose Sanchez on December 17. Jose has completed the requirements for his M.Eng. degree under the supervision of Dr. John Hughes Clarke. The department held its annual Pizza Party on September 9 to welcome back returning students and new students to GGE. This year is a special year, as it marks our 50th Anniversary.

During his participation at the AGU Meeting of the Americas, Marcelo Santos managed to gather some participants for the accompanying photo in front of the UNB poster. The Meeting of the Americas took place in Foz do Iguaçú, Brazil, in August 2010.

The Department said a farewell to Dr. Jonathan Beaudoin on March 29. Jonathan has been with the Department as an undergraduate then a graduate student since 1995. He received his Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree in 2001 and his Ph.D. in February 2010 ( Thesis title: “Estimation of Sounding Uncertainty from Measurements of Water Mass Variability”).

The department said farewell to Ph.D. student Silvane Paixão on February 16, 2010. Silvane was supervised by Dr. Sue Nichols and the title of her thesis is “Design of a Conceptual Land Information Management Model for the Rural Cadastre in Brazil.”
