Samuel Backman

Honours Thesis (2015 - 2016)

Sam began working with us in April of 2015 as an honours summer student entering his fourth year of a B.Sc. His research involved the cultivation of Palmaria palmata (dulse) under three different light treatments and determining what type of substrate (twine) is favored for tetraspore settlement. After 8 weeks the dulse “babies” were taken to an aquaculture site to continue growth and to be integrated into the site’s farming practices. The dulse lines were monitored for growth.
