September 4, 2009: Visit of the Ile Sainte-Croix with the Consul Général of France and the Lieutenant-Governor of New Brunswick

On September 4, 2009, we had a wonderful visit of Ile Sainte-Croix in the excellent company of Mr. Gilles Courrègelongue, Consul Général of France, and his family, and The Honourable Herménégilde Chiasson, Lieutenant-Governor of New Brunswick, and his wife Marcia Babineau, Artistic and General Director of the Théâtre l’Escaouette in Moncton.

Ile Sainte-Croix is the site of the first French/European settlement established in North America in 1604 by the French explorer and merchant Pierre Dugua, Sieur de Monts, first Governor of Acadia, and his cartographer, Samuel de Champlain.

Ile Sainte-Croix is now in the USA because of the way the border is designed between Canada and the USA on the river Sainte-Croix (the deepest point is the channel and line).
Ile Sainte-Croix is not opened to the public. We thank Park Ranger Meg Scheid, of the Saint Croix Island International Historic Site, for arranging this very special and enjoyable visit.
